MANIAC MANSION REMAKE!

So I read today that they are remaking the NES version of Maniac Mansion into a new, Day of the Tentacle style PC game. This was one of my favorite games growing up, and just might be my favorite game of all time. I'm very excited to play this, as it looks awesome.

I just hope they get the music right, as it was one of the best features of the game, and some of the best 8-bit music ever made, in my opinion.

A quick Hangover II review

We went to see The Hangover II last night for the Midnight showing. I give it an underwhelming meh out of ten. It had it's moments, for sure, but overall it failed to live up to the original.

My biggest gripe with the movie was that the funniest moments were pretty much all in the trailers and commercials. Also, most of the jokes were more shock value than actual jokes. Galifianakis steals the show, of course, which is to be expected. Most of the other characters seem dry and lifeless, save for Ken Jeong, who is as funny in the sequel as the original.

I did enjoy this movie to a degree, but it was disappointing for the most part. Also, there was a lot more penis in this movie than I could have ever imagined.

Another Awesome Cover

Unfortunately, the only way I could post this was with the huge honking player that Paste has on their site, but you get the idea.

Jukebox the Ghost covering Donna Lewis' I Love You Always Forever.

Fashion. Buy it. Load it. Shoot it.

I want one of these so bad. And no, I'm not trying to rip off Tyler, The Creator.

I'm trying to rip off Daryl Palumbo. : D

Awesome American Football cover by Transit

Transit is blowing up right now. I especially like the tracks they recorded for their Record Store Day exclusive stuff with Gary Cioffi.

But this cover is pretty dern good. I thought it was clever how the camera guy walks away at the end to fade the sound out, but then it just kinda stops.

First look at Bane from the upcoming Dark Knight Rises

First picture of Tom Hardy as Bane in the new Nolan directed Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

I can totally picture this guy breaking Batman's back.
Also, I'm really excited to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this movie, even if it is just a bit part.

I can get behind Anne Hathaway in a catsuit as well.

Check Out: Kilimanjaro

I think I've listened to the As Tall As Lions' self-titled more times than I could ever count, and it will always be one of my favorite albums of all time, but I feel like their follow-up You Can't Take It With You is severely underrated. It seemed like such a mature next step for the band, although it seems to be the last for ATAL. I will miss them dearly, but lately I've been REALLY digging both new projects that they've spun off.

Kilimanjaro is pretty much As Tall As Lions minus lead singer/ guitarist Dan Nigro, but their sound is extremely different. Kilimanjaro don't seem to have a specific genre targeted, but  delve more into an awesome mix of Experimental/Psychedelic Trip-Jazz. They really shine in their improvisational live show, which is rich with awesome grooves, interesting and diverse samples, and tons of originality. You can definitely hear hints of As Tall As Lions, but I have high hopes that Kilimanjaro will reach heights far greater than their previous incarnation.

And yes, that was a mountain pun. I'm going to bed.

P.S. I think it's awesome that one of the guys is tripping on 'shrooms on these live songs, can you imagine how intense it would be to be on stage, tripping balls, playing free-form jazz in front of hundreds of people? Seems like a fun time.

Fashion. Buy it. Load it. Shoot it.

So I really want a new Members Only jacket, preferably in the most garish color available.

So, after two measly posts, I've decided to turn this into my personal blog, rather than one based solely on music. So, in the future, look forward to rants and raves pertaining to, but not limited to:

-Music
-Tattoo stuff
-Art and junk
-Foodstuffs
-Alcohol
-Fashion
-Stuff
-Like, whatever.
-Funny pictures I find on the Internet
-Video Games
-Etc.

So, stay tuned!

Your pal,

Check Out: Drummers

Drummers - "Planes" from Bobby Landry on Vimeo.

Today, I would like to tell you about the band Drummers. This band out of Boston, MA, who describe their music as, "something like post-hardcore," is currently preparing for a tour with New York's Tidal Arms. They recently recorded a full length that is available for free download, and is also for sale available on a spiffy cassette tape, for all you collectors, analog-lovers, and people who just don't want to install a CD player/Ipod adapter for their car.

People in the know might know this band from several places. You may have heard them by another moniker, Bobby and Brian, an early version of the band, who performed some of the songs heard on their full length. Others might know them as the side project of Jeremy of Pretty & Nice fame, a band fellow Drummer Bobby used to play, well...drums for. Others may remember Bobby and Brian's older band, Anola's Recovery, or Brian's more recent band Walk Harbor City. If you have been lucky enough to hear about Drummers, you know they are a truly unique musical experience.

I'll do a more formal review of their album in another post, but in the mean time, watch the awesome video they made for the song Planes. And don't forget to check out their website HERE for the free download, as well as to check out tour dates and more info. And like 'em on Facebook, bands love it when you do that.

Check Out: Eben Cottrelle

I may be a bit biased, as we used to be in a band back in high school, but I cannot recommend Eben's music highly enough, so he seemed a natural choice for our first Artist Spotlight.  I have always admired Eben's ability to create unique lyrical narratives, and his musical prowess is quite obvious. His music is endearing, and I'm sure you'll love his unique take on the singer-songwriter genre with contemporary folk undertones.

For fans of: The Decemberists, Bright Eyes, Bob Dylan, Portugal. The Man., Arcade Fire

First Post

So after posting one entry on the old Company Soul website, I decided to stop wasting money on it and just go with a simpler (and more importantly FREE) blog style format 'til it makes sense to have a website type website.

So, here we are!
